Al Jalila Foundation, a global philanthropic organisation dedicated to transforming lives through medical education and research, have announced the launch of ‘Together Against Osteoporosis’. This is the first osteoporosis research study of its kind in the United Arab Emirates and will be conducted by Dubai Bone & Joint Center (DBAJ). Gargash Enterprises has donated two fully equipped Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans to facilitate the pioneering research in line with their corporate social responsibility giving initiative.
The ‘Together Against Osteoporosis’ medical research study investigates the prevalence of osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency in the UAE, as well as the correlation of vitamin D, diabetes mellitus and other risk factors with bone mineral density. Osteoporosis is preventable and treatable, however, many people are not diagnosed in time to receive effective therapy during the early phase of the disease. The goal of this study is to raise awareness about this silent disease, preventative measures and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. The study will be conducted during a 24 month period and aims to asses a total of 2,500 participants. The data collected will be published to provide healthcare professionals with accurate epidemiological information about osteoporosis in the UAE.
The two fully equipped mobile clinic vehicles that Gargash Enterprises has donated, will facilitate the country-wide medical assessments of adults across the United Arab Emirates. These mobile clinics will drive the research programme and allow Dubai Bone & Joint Center to screen thousands to promote early detection and prevention of the debilitating disease.

As part of a road parade, the branded Mercedes-Benz Cars that were decorated with the UAE National Day paraphernalia made a stop at the Union House to celebrate the UAE National Day with the children and spread the spirit of the Union.
The stop at the Union House was one of many stops that Group 32 made on the way to its destination – Dubai Mall. Group 32 had also stopped by Al Shurooq Kindergarten and Greenwoods School to honor the 42nd UAE National Day alongside the younger generation and bring out the patriotic spirit. This year’s parade was specially designed to demonstrate appreciation of the culture of the Emirates and instill the spirit of the union of the seven emirates in the children. In honor of December 2nd, the parade was initiated to show support to all the calamities that the children with Down syndrome have gone through.
Gargash Enterprises and Group 32 wish to raise awareness about Down syndrome and encourage the residents of the UAE to see beyond such disabilities. Buckle Up is a campaign aimed at increasing awareness about the dangers of not wearing seat belts. During the course of the campaign, the founder of Buckle Up, Lesley Cully visited several schools to organize workshops on the importance of wearing seat belts.
Lesley Cully founded ‘Buckle Up In The Back’ in May 2010 with the determination of raising awareness about the importance of installing the most effective child seats as well as the importance of seat belts amongst children and adults. For a mother of two, it was very shocking to witness children jumping about in the front and back seats of cars without any protection. As per UAE law, children below the age of 10 years are not allowed to sit in the front seats of the car.
As parents, the only priority is to keep their children safe and teach them the importance of doing the right things. Seeing some of the younger children jump around in cars on the highway is a very unsettling feeling and more shocking when you don’t see the adults take any corrective action. With Buckle Up, Gargash Enterprises hoped to reach as many schools to educate children and parents and make people realize the importance of something as simple as wearing seat belts.
As part of the campaign, Lesley visited several schools across Dubai to conduct Buckle Up awareness workshops to educat students. The workshops were interactive and engaged students in understanding the importance of following basic car rules. Students were also encouraged to create messages which were then displayed across their respective schools.
According to IQPC data, 450 children have lost their lives over the last six years owing to safety negligence by not wearing their seat belts or being restrained in child seats. Seats fitted correctly can reduce child fatalities by up to 70%.
